‘THE MONTH OF CHARITY’ is how the Prophet (saw) described Ramadhan, and in this month he was said to be ‘even more generous than the wind’ – meaning he was quick to give and would give to everyone. So to follow his example, we decided to launch our main Charity fundraiser for 2013 in this blessed month.
Last year we did fundraisers for Darul Fadilah (an orphanage in Gaza) and the Al-Ansari Foundation which builds schools for orphans in Zanzibar. This Ramadhan we are raising money for Syria.
To raise £3000 in Ramadhan…
InshaAllah we are doing a sponsored hike after Ramadhan, along the beautiful South Coast from Hastings to Rye. It’s 20km (12 miles), one of the longest and toughest treks in the South of England – we hope this motivates people to donate even more to help our sisters and brothers in Syria! And it’s good for the hikers too – because the greater the effort = the more reward!
We are doing 2 hike days inshaAllah, to give more sisters the chance to take part!
Hike 1: Wednesday 14th August
Hike 2: Saturday 17th August
MashaAllah people were very enthusiastic in coming forward, despite the difficulty of this hike. Everyone was encouraged to sign up in Ramadhan because in this month the rewards are multiplied over and over again. So even if you just make an intention to do something in this month, but carry it out after the month has passed, you’ll get multiple rewards! Spaces filled up quickly, and we now have 25 brave hikers on board, mashaAllah! Everyone was asked to try and get at least £50 in donations, but many sisters passed their individual target almost straight away and aimed even higher 🙂 .
THE DONATION PAGE:
Here is the link for online donations: www.justgiving.com/TootingCircle-Syria
The great news is that the target was smashed within a week!!! Alhamdulillah! But we are not stopping there – we want to raise as much as possible, especially while Ramadhan is still here.
Human Care Syria – check their webpage here : They do fantastic work providing food, shelter and medical care for thousands of Syrians who have been made refugees or are trapped inside Syria living in fear and poverty. The UN has said over 93,000 people have been killed since 2011, 1.5 million are refugees outside the country and another 4 million are displaced internally – subhanAllah. It is our duty to help our sisters and brothers. The charity is well established and we have contacts with people who currently work/ have worked with the charity in the past: they have confirmed it is a very reliable charity, one of the few that has direct access to those inside Syria.
WHAT DO I GET IF I TAKE PART OR DONATE?
The pleasure of Allah & protection on the Day of Judgment inshaAllah!
The Prophet (saw) said: “Give Sadaqah without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity.” (Tirmidhi)
And: “Sadaqah extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire.” (Tirmidhi)
And also: “The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his Sadaqah.” (Tirmidhi)
And if anyone is worried about losing money when they give donations, remember the Prophet (saw) said:“Ramadhan is the month of charity, and a nonth in which a believer’s sustenance is increased.” He also said that wealth never decreases with charity (Tirmidhi) – Alhamdulillah!
WHAT IF I CAN’T COME ON THE HIKE? …
Even if you can’t come on the hike or donate, you are very important for the success of this appeal! You can be a part of this effort and receive the same rewards by helping to raise money or just by publicising the event– put the Justgiving link on your facebook, send it round via email or text, do a collection at your local masjid… spread the word, get your friends and family and communities to donate. Very few people could give £3000 on their own – but it’s amazing what we can do together with collective effort 🙂 Whatever effort you put in today will be your investment in the Akhirah, inshaAllah!!
We hope that whoever reads this will feel encouraged to give generously, and to catch the rewards in Ramadhan while they are multiplied in value!! Because Ramadhan is as much about helping others as it is about Ibadah. If you don’t have much to give then even £2 – the cost of a sandwich or a hot drink – is valuable! And if you don’t have that, then you can raise money and tell others about it too!
“For those who give in charity, men and women, and loan to Allah a Beautiful Loan, it shall be increased manifold (to their credit), and they shall have (besides) a liberal reward.” (Qur’an 57:18)
JazakumAllahu khair, may Allah reward you all abundantly! Ameen!
